Tom Henderson-Smith

“As a contemporary artist based in the far west of Cornwall, my aim is the celebration of how I experience this dramatic coastal landscape, and the colourful festivals and rich heritage that abound here.”

The style or approach to painting Tom uses is one based on a sense of design that was confirmed for him by two formative years spent in Italy after graduating from Art College in the 1970s. At the same time a sensuous enjoyment of colour is important to him, stemming from a childhood spent partly in the tropics when his family lived in Africa. Cornwall has brought together these personal tastes through its landscape, culture and over-arching quality of maritime light.
